Changes to employee travel implemented
Travelling on Air Canada and Canadian Airlines is about to get a lot
easier for employees of both carriers. A joint review of employee
travel privileges is looking at ways to facilitate our ultimate goal
of integration. The following changes constitute phase one in what may
result in a series of adjustments over the course of the next few
months.
On Monday, January 24, improvements to the employee travel interline
agreement will affect flights operated by Air Canada, Air Nova, Air
Ontario, AirBC, Canadian Airlines, and Canadian Regional.
Employee Personal travel
Air Canada will accept Canadian "U-Write" tickets on all flights
operated by Air Canada and Connector carriers_"U-Write" tickets are
similar to Air Canada employee trip pass tickets, T421. Canadian will
accept Air Canada employee trip pass tickets (T421) on all flights
operated by Canadian and Canadian Regional.
Who's eligible?
Active employees of Air Canada, Air Nova, Air Ontario, AirBC, Canadian
Airlines, and Canadian Regional with a minimum of 6 months service,
retirees, spouses, dependant children under 25 years of age, and
widows/widowers.
Parents: There will be no change to parent travel. Parents may
continue to purchase medium ZED fares.
Travel Partners will not be accepted at this time.
Ticketing
Air Canada on Canadian Airline: T421 Trip Pass Ticket
Similar to procedures for travel on the Connector carriers_one trip
pass ticket can be used for combined travel on AC and CP.
Canadian Airline on Air Canada: U-Write Ticket
One trip pass booklet can be used for combined travel on Air Canada
and Canadian.
Travel priority
Canadian employees will travel at the same priorities as the Connector
carrier employees on Air Canada. They will be boarded in accordance
with priority and date of joining.
Service Charges
Each carrier will deduct service charges and appropriate taxes from
respective employees.
·Air Canada employees will pay normal zone service charges for travel
on Canadian.
·Canadian employees will pay mileage-based service charges for travel
on Air Canada.
Note: In some cases, these charges will result in different amounts
being levied for the same trip. This means, in some cases Air Canada
staff will pay more than Canadian staff and in other cases less.
Reservations
Air Canada on Canadian Airlines:
Canadian doesn't have a dedicated Call Centre for employees. Air
Canada employees should call the local Canadian Airlines Reservation
office to list for flights.
Canadian Airlines on Air Canada:
Canadian employees can call the Employee Call Centre or the local Air
Canada Reservation office outside North America to list for flights.
Travel priority
Canadian employees will travel at the same priorities as the Connector
carrier employees on Air Canada. They will be boarded in accordance
with priority and date of joining.
DRESS CODE
There are no major differences between Air Canada and Canadian
employee travel dress code. Both carriers do not allow employees to
wear jeans in Business Class.
Q: When will I be able to use my personal trip pass ticket on
Canadian?
January 24th, 2000.
Q: Will the same zone service charge apply when travelling on
Canadian?
Yes. Canadian routes will be included in the zone service charge chart
Q: Can I use one trip pass ticket for combined travel on both Air
Canada and Canadian?
Yes.
Q: What is my personal priority on Canadian?
It is S5.
Q: Where do I call to register for the flights?
Canadian does not have a dedicated Call Centre for employee travel.
Employees must call the local Canadian Airlines Reservations office.
Q: Can my spouse imprint a T421 trip pass ticket with her 25-year
anniversary spousal card?
Yes.
Q: Are common-law (including same-sex) spouses included?
Yes.
Q: Are we allowed to travel on Canadian code-sharing flights?
No. Only flights operated by Canadian and Canadian Regional.
Q: Are Air Canada T421 trip pass tickets also accepted for travel on
the Canadian Partners?
No, Canadian Partners (Air Alma, Air St. Pierre, Pacific Coastal,
Southwest Home Aviation, Air Norterra, Ontario Regional and Calm Air)
are not included.
Q: Are my parent's service charge tickets valid on Canadian?
There will be no change to our current Canadian/Air Canada interline
agreement for parents: they continue to purchase medium zonal fares.
Q: Is the Travel Partner program extended on Canadian?
Not at the present time.
Q: Can I purchase an 80% reduced rate ticket for travel on Canadian?
No. You can purchase ID50 for positive space travel.
Q: Is my service anniversary or Award of Excellence ticket valid on
Canadian?
Not at the present time.
Q: Are Air Canada Connector carrier employees also permitted to
imprint trip pass tickets for travel on Canadian?
Yes.
Q: Will widows/widowers now be permitted to travel on Canadian?
Yes.
Q: Can employees request for compassionate travel on Canadian?
Not at the present time.
Q: Are cargo reductions extended on Canadian?
Not at the present time.
Q: Are employees allowed to travel on Canadian while on leave?
Yes. Those on maternity, child care, union, or disability leave will
have access. For those who cannot be payroll-deducted, tickets can be
arranged through the Employee Call Centre and paid for in advance.
Q: What is the personal priority of Canadian staff when they travel on
Air Canada and Air Canada Connectors?
The priority is C4/Y10 and their date of joining.
Q: Will the Family Affair program be available to Canadian staff?
Not at the present time.
Q: Is the Canadian non-revenue dress code similar to Air Canada's?
Yes.
