As you may have already noticed WE HAVE CHANGED OUR NAME. To just
plain
THE NETLETTER.
By dropping the 'Between Yourselves' moniker. As we think that our new
retirees signing up would not know about the reference to 'Between
Ourselves,' which was my first choice to name this NetLetter back in
1995.
How time flies, we have 445 issues under our belt and there doesn't seem
to be any end to it! Please keep the articles coming and the
smilies<G>.
My co-pilot has left the right hand seat empty for a while, so I will
carry on the best I can.
So far this month we have signed up 31 new readers, I think that is a
record month.
We are in touch with AOL and with the help of Alan Rust's expertise we
should have all our AOL users back on line soon. We think that the
problem is anti-spam software which may have been activated sometime in
November. FYI the Archives files are now current.
Linda Kwoon advises me that she is in the process of reviewing the
complete Retiree's Travel Guide and will be providing us with minor
modifications made throughout the year for the Pionairs and anyone who
have access to the Netletter. She will also include the new AC/CP
interchange of trip pass tickets on each other's carrier, which was
recently announced.
As well as the recently enhanced employee interline agreement with
Central Mountain Air, Alberta City Link and Canadian.

Edmonton and London, ON, Airport Improvement Fees (AIF). Airport
Authorities in London, ON, and Edmonton will introduce a $4.00 and
$10.00 AIF, respectively, for travel commencing January 1 and 5. AIF
is subject to GST. The fees will be collected at time of ticketing and
indicated on the ticket in a separate tax box, with the SQ code.

30 YEARS LATER THE ORIGINAL "JUMBO" STILL FLYING STRONG...
It's hard to believe, but the Boeing 747 has been with us for three
decades. Last week marked the 30th anniversary of the first commercial
flight of the 747 by Pan Am. More 747s have been delivered (1,238) than
any other widebody jet in history.
According to Boeing, thirty years ago B747 cockpits had nearly 1,000
lights, switches and gauges -- and an array of analog instrumentation.
There were three crewmembers to soak it in. Today the crew has been
reduced to two, reflecting a similar change in cockpit simplicity
through
the use of advanced CRTs and computerized systems.

Subject: Moon Landing
This is a true story...
On July 20, 1969, as commander of the Apollo 11 Lunar Module,
Neil Armstrong was the first person to set foot on the moon.
"That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind",
were televised to Earth and heard by millions.
But just before he re-entered the lander, he made the enigmatic remark:
Many people at NASA thought it was a casual remark concerning some
rival Soviet Cosmonaut.
However, upon checking, there was no Gorsky in either the Russian
or American space programs.
Over the years many people questioned Armstrong as to what the
"Good luck Mr.Gorsky" statement meant, but Armstrong always just
smiled.
On July 5, 1995, in Tampa Bay, Florida, while answering questions
following a speech, a reporter brought up the 26 year old question
to Armstrong.
Mr. Gorsky had died and so Neil Armstrong felt he could answer
the question.
In 1938 when he was a kid in a small Midwest town, he was playing
baseball his friend hit a fly ball, which landed in his neighbors
who were Mr. and Mrs. Gorsky.
As he leaned down to pick up the ball, young Armstrong heard Mrs.
Gorsky
say to Mr Gorsky
"You'll get sex when the kid next door walks on the moon!"

People often joke about citizens in Eastern European countries
flying with animals on the planes. When I was visiting a small
country in that part of the continent I had the option to upgrade
to first class. I looked at the brochure that didn't note any
differences between coach and first class, so I asked the attendant
what the difference was. The attendant responded, "In first class
the stewards clean up after the animals. In coach, you have to."
