We regret to tell you that Olie Moore passed away yesterday.
Olie was the Past President of the Pionairs.
He was visiting at his daughter's home on Sunday, February 20th, when
he suddenly took ill and was rushed to Sunny Brook hospital for
immediate cardiac surgery.
Further complications necessitated additional surgery following which he
was attended to on a 24 hour basis in the Intensive Care Unit.
Subsequent failure of his vital organs led to the decision by the
doctors and his immediate family to disconnect life support systems.
He passed away, Wednesday, February 23rd.
A Memorial Service was scheduled for 1100, Saturday, February 26th, at
St. Clements Catholic Church, 409 Markland Drive (SE corner on BloorW.)
Mary has suggested that any contributions that might be offered in
Olie's memory should perhaps be directed to the Canadian Diabetes
Association, 15 Toronto St. Toronto, ON M5C 2E3.
(Our condolenses go to the family - eds)

. From the YYZNEWS issued by Brian Dunn -
Thai Airways International said last Wednesday it is considering
leaving the Star Alliance group of airlines.  The move apparently was
prompted by the imminent membership in the Star Alliance of stronger
regional rival Singapore Airlines.
SIA is scheduled to join Star in April.
The Dow Jones Newswire analyst suggests that Thai may join the rival
Oneworld Alliance instead.
Thai has denied this story, and state they have no intention of leaving
the Star Alliance.

Air Canada recently exercised its "Phase III" options on two
additional A330-300s from Airbus Industrie.  The two additional A330s
will be delivered in Aug and Sep 2001.  This will make a total of 8
A330s once all deliveries are completed.  The company still holds
additional options on more aircraft subject to confirmation by May
2000.
Meanwhile, DC-9-30 (C-FTLM FIN712) was put back into revenue
servicerecently with a flight from Montreal to Halifax.

Another CAC Boeing 737 has entered the Air Canada paint shop in YYZ
for re-painting. C-FACP FIN728 is currently being stripped of its
original paint.  Another 737 which had been painted in Louisiana
(C-GPPW) has been sent back to be re-done due to extreme peeling of the
first paint!

. Terry's travel tips.
From Alan Rust, Web Administrator, AC Family Network
http://www.acfamily.net
I saw the request from Peg O'Toole in NetLetter (#449) re Barbados.
The AC Family Network provides links to many travel related sites as well
as discount sites for airline employees and retirees.
Non-members are required to register first with the AC Family Network
(it's free). Just go to:www.acfamily.net and click on the "Register" link
at the bottom left side of the page.
The AC Family does not provide individual travel information, we just point
to the resources available.
Also, I was a bit discouraged a few weeks ago. After spending about a half
an hour researching and writing a personal reply to one of the members
regarding accommodation in Miami (before a cruise)
-  I never received a reply or thank you.
Please, when someone you don't even know takes the time to help you with
any request or problem, a quick acknowledgement and thank you is always in
order.  Regards,  Alan

. Smilie.
Heard on the frequency while going into Newark, N.J. (EWR) a while back:
Big jet: "Left to 120, and if it helps we've got the field."
NY TRACON: "Roger.  Let me know when you get the other 12 guys ahead of
you in sight."

Your Co-pilot found this one -
This is your Captain fighting -
Award to two Qantas 767 pilots who demonstrated their own rendition
of sky rage on the tarmac of Melbourne Airport. The incident was touched
off when one captain used his radio to scold the air traffic controller
for delaying his landing. The second captain, who was taxiing to the
terminal, interrupted to jibe "Your three minutes are up."
When the two pilots stepped out of their cockpits, they became involved
in a push-and-shove dust-up in full view of passengers. The first pilot
was    later demoted to first officer.
