Many thanks to both yourself and Terry and confirm that am receiving
letters regularly and find lots in them of interest particularly when
we receive very little Canadian news. Any movement as to changes in the
AC/CAI-story of particular importance e.g. plans of AC to operates
international route to Sydney, Aus.- as we were hoping to make a trip
to see our son later this year.
Meanwhile, for the record, a potted history of the 30 plus yrs spent
with the Company :
Joined TCA in Prestwick, Sep 1947 as P/A then Rsvns and finally Sales Rep.
In 1963 moved to HQ Sales and Marketing until l969 apart from two brief
spells at YHZ airport prior to moving to Prague beginning of 1970 to set up
Sales and Ops there for start of new service. Moved back to HQ again late
1970 again in Sales/Mktg prior to moving to MBJ part 72/73 before returning
to HQ in Planning and Industry Affairs, remaining there until retirement in
late ''77. Brief spell as consultant with Jim English in Cayman Islands in
'78 before moving to Geneva at end of year to join IATA for 2 years.
Finally retired to Scotland at start of l980 enjoying return to homeland
for 16 years but regular trips to OZ to see two daughters and families
finally persuaded us to move ourselves out to the sunshine in Tasmania. So
far no regrets whatsoever except that we are further away than ever from
son Neil and family in YQM.
Best regards and good wishes for the continuing good work in keeping us in

Hopefully this year will have a better turnout of the retired pilots.
Air Canada Flight Operations Annual Golf Tournament - Toronto
This year's tournament will be held at the Flamborough Hills Golf Club
in Ontario on Wednesday June 14th, 2000 with the proceeds to be
donated to DREAMS TAKE FLIGHT. Last year thanks to many individuals,
companies and organizations, we were able to donate over $2,500.00 to
DREAMS TAKE FLIGHT.
The cost for golf and dinner is $85.00 with the tee-off times scheduled
to begin at 11:00am and dinner to begin at approximately 6:30pm.

Subject: fight in cockpit
It was interesting to read about this "fight in cockpit" in your latest
newsletter.
It brings back memories when I was a DC-9 Capt. flying into YYT.
My F/O was Jean Guy Page and we were about 800ft on final when this
drunk came bursting into the cockpit and hammered me on the right side
of my head. I yelled at Jean Guy for help while I concentrated on flying
the airplane and making a decision whether to land or go around.
With all the commotion in the cockpit I decided to land and declared an
emergency. The tower got hold of the Mounties and when we stopped on the
runway the flt. attendant opened the front door and the Mounties
proceeded up the stairs. Meanwhile our attacker met the Mounties at the
door and cold cocked one of them and down the stairs he flew. The rest of
the Mounties finally subdued him and gave him the what for.
He was arrested and thrown in the local jail. Meanwhile I was laying
charges against him along with the Mounties. A few days later I received
a phone call from one of AC lawyers to ask me if I would consider
dropping the charges. I asked why and he advised me he was a priest on
holidays and he drank too much rum before leaving YHZ. Also the Mounties
worked him over that week-end. I reluctantly agreed and that was the end
of it.

TERMINATION OF ALASKA AIRLINES (AS) CODESHARE
CDN and AS have agreed they will end their codeshare on Aug. 20.
CATHAY PACIFIC (CX) CODESHARE ALSO ENDS IN AUGUST
CRA UPDATE
In response to employees concerns, CRA answered the following questions
from their employees this week:
Q. What is the status of the Regional integration process?
A. An integration structure has been formalized that outlines
responsibilities for core departments and sub teams. These teams are
working to find "quick wins" and synergies in our current operations,
as well as determine the best path forward as we move toward a single
Regional airline. In the meantime, we remained focused on the
priorities of maintaining safe and reliable operations, and
implementing the Summer 2000 Schedule.
Q. Is AA talking to the government about buying CRA?
A. Media reports indicate AA has been in discussion with the federal
government regarding foreign ownership laws. However, we have
received no indication of an interest to purchase CRA from any party.
THE TOP OF THE WORLD
The Ottawa Citizen recently reported that as early as next year,
Canadian airlines and their passengers could be saving significant time
and money flying non-stop to Asia over the top of the world and through
once-forbidden Siberian airspace via new polar air routes. The current
flight time for a Boeing 747-400 travelling from YYZ to DEL, via the
traditional North Pacific route, is 15 hours and 25 minutes. Nav Canada
estimates a more direct polar route would trim that by about 2 hours.
YVR to DEL would save 4 hours and NYC to HKG would save 5 hours.

Under the integratons plans for the regional airlines it looks like
all Beech 1900 operations across the country are going to be operating
under the Air Alliance banner, including Air Georgian and Central
Mountain Air out west.
WestJet Airlines is expecting to take delivery of another 737-200
shortly. This one will be ex-LAN Chile and is due in Abbotsford for
mods prior to entering WestJet service. Another 737 may be coming from
El Al to bolster their fleet.

British Airways is committed to All Employee Share Ownership.
Presently 4% of BA shares are currently held by employees - the
airline would like that figure to be 10%. In an effort to increase
this %, BA employees will be invited to join a 3 year scheme and
commit to saving regular monthly amounts and receive a tax-free bonus
at the end. The price has been fixed for the next 3 years at 238p.
Toronto will be the first of 8 North American gateways to enjoy
British Airways' new Next generation four-class products.
Starting Jan 2001, double daily with B777 and B747 equipment with
early and late departures. BA has serviced Toronto for the
past 40 years.

. Northwest is the first major carrier to allow customers to complete
their entire check-in process via the internet - including printing
boarding passes from their own PC's. The technology, which is being
tested on selected corporate clients, should be available to all
passengers by early 2001.
. Ten of Europe's biggest airlines are in advanced talks on setting
up an internet travel agency. British Airways is spearheading the
travel agency, dubbed Online Travel Portal. It looks set to
include Air France, Lufthansa, KLM and Swissair. It is estimated
that a saving of GBP1 million a year from selling through its planned
e-commerce venture.
