. Need to know.
This weekend marks one of the biggest moving days in airport history! Canadian Airlines and Air Canada are solidifying their operations in Terminals 1 and 2 at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport. Although the big day is June 3, Air Canada and Canadian have been moving furniture and other materials since March.

Integration arrives at London, Heathrow
Effective June 1, all Canadian Airlines’ flights operating from Terminal 4 at Heathrow Airport, will move to Terminal 3—Air Canada’s operations home base. Passenger and ground handling services will be handled by Air Canada.

What else is happening this weekend?
June 1, Air Canada increases baggage liability rates
June 3, Canadian changes to terminal E in Boston for Vancouver-Boston flights
June 3, Canadian changes to terminal 2 in Chicago
June 3, T1 Maple Leaf Lounge in Toronto opens
June 3, phase two of the summer schedule begins

Rumour Mill
Q: Is it true Air Canada (AC) is in the process of purchasing and/or leasing new
aircraft.
A: AC currently has opportunities with aircraft manufacturers and certain aircraft leasing companies for aircraft with early delivery dates. To take advantage of this, Air Canada has begun developing its specifications (like choosing from the option list when purchasing a new car) for Boeing and Airbus aircraft. We also have plans to look at other aircraft types as well. Integration presents many opportunities for growth. As it continues to move forward, a clear picture of future fleet composition and business plans will no doubt result in significant aircraft orders.
Q: Why was the Vancouver Mexico flight cancelled?
A: With increased demand on domestic flights, it was decided to utilize the aircraft that were to be flown on the Vancouver Mexico route on those flights. AC has only temporarily suspended the route, and expects to begin operation in the near future.
Rumour: Canadian Airlines (CDN) employees have been issued an Air Canada
employee number.
Truth: CDN employees will have an AC identification number for payroll purposes,
but they remain employees of CDN.
Rumour: CDN employees pay statements are now produced by Air Canada.
Truth: Pay statements of CDN employees who are represented by the Canadian Auto
Workers (CAW) will now be done in Air Canada’s People Soft system,
administered by CDN employees

. Chris Doutre sends us this information -
Subject: San Diego Aerospace Museum
I just spent an excellent four hours at the San Diego Aerospace Museum yesterday.
I could have easily spent four hours more if I were willing to be antisocial.
There are many full-size aircraft and replicas ranging from the earliest days of aviation,
both civilian and military, through both world wars, up to the present. I especially enjoyed
a series of scale model airliners, some of them very large, depicting the progress
of civilian airline travel from the DC3 to the Concorde. Many, many airline paint jobs,
posters, and logos are also displayed. I was slightly disappointed to see only US carriers
represented. One exception: the Concorde had a BA paint job, but you can probably
deduce why that is; no US airlines fly the Concorde.
Nevertheless, this museum is a must-see for any aviation buff who finds himself or
herself in San Diego. There was even an actual Canadair CF-86 Sabrejet on display.

. Remember when?
In 1949, T.C.A. began providing regular flights from Stephenville Airport, N.F. to
Halifax and Montreal. Both DC9 and B727 equipment were used until June 1969.

At Sudbury Airport, ON., T.C.A.  offered service beginning February 1st 1954.

. Vesta, our chief pilot, found this -
*** British airman gets plane wreckage

LONDON (AP) - Others honorees leave Buckingham Palace with medals, brooches
and ribbons. Henry Lloyd-Lyne came away Tuesday with a piece of the wreckage
of his Liberator warplane, shot down by the Germans over Warsaw in 1944 as
it tried to deliver supplies to Polish forces.
Queen Elizabeth II, who was given the 3-foot memento during a state visit to
Poland in 1996, "thought I would like it," said Lloyd-Lyne, now 77 and
retired from farming. "I'm actually thinking about cutting it into three
pieces - one for my son, one for my daughter and one for a museum,"
Lloyd-Lyne said after receiving his unusual souvenir from the monarch. The
Liberator's other six crew members all died when the plane, which had flown
from Italy, was shot down over Skaryszewski Park in the Polish capital,
Warsaw. Check web site http://airlinebiz.com/main/wire05232000

. Found on the internet.
Canada's newest airline, CanJet Airlines Corporation, has appointed
Mark Winders Chief Operating Officer. Mr. Winders has over 30 years
experience in the airline industry. "Mark's impressive record as a top
executive with Air Canada and its subsidiaries, Air Ontario and NWT Air
and with Cayman Airways, the national airline for the Cayman Islands,
made him the perfect candidate for this very challenging position",
said Ken Rowe, Chairman of I.M.P. Group International Inc.

Revolutionary methods are being considered to get the giant Airbus A3XXX wings out of
Broughton   factory in the U.K. The logistics of how to move the wings is most challenging.
One method is the possibility of strapping the wings to the outside of an Airbus A340 and
fly them piggy back to France or Germany. Another method being explored is to barge
them up the local river Dee for onward shipment by sea. Currently the Beluga, the huge
modified Airbus A300 which presently collects wings, is unable to accommodate the
new proposed wings for the A3XXX.

. Visitors to various airports in the world may have  noticed the shell of a civil aircraft, long
since written off by the owners and now being used by the airport fire department for
practice.
At London's Heathrow airport, one such aircraft was the De Havilland Comet 4C registered
G-APDT   located at the end of runway 09 left, hence the location was named 'Comet Corner'.  The previous occupant was a B.O.A.C. Hermes. The next occupier was
the Hawker Siddley Trident  2E-101 registered G-AVFG, ex B.E.A. which has been in
residence for the past 10 years, and last flew in 1985 before retirement.  This machines claim to fame will be its use in the documentary  about the British Midland B737 Kegworth disaster, prior to being broken up for scrap.
The replacement is reported to be a B747-400/DC-10 hybrid constructed for use by the
airport fire department.
