I worked at In Flight as a flight attendant for 19 years from 76-96 and loved it. I studied
Marine Biology at McGill (B.Sc. 1979) and did real estate and politics
( City Councillor for Montreal 1994-98 and Deputy Mayor from May to Nov 95 ) and
I miss flying very much.
Want to get in touch with other retirees and exchange travel and other tips.

I retired from Air Canada in 1983 as Passenger Service Supervisor YVRA.
after 30 years 3 months. My family are also with Air Canada -
My son; John jr. Aircraft Services Training Instructor, 31 years service,
My daughter; Peggy Iverson. Customer Service Manager YVRA, 30 years,
Her husband, Ken Iverson, Station Attendant,YVRA, 29 years,
Their son, ( my grandson), Paul Iverson, Aircraft Cleaner YVRA, 5years,
My grand nephew, Felix Hunter, Flight Attendant, 2 years.
I moved over to Victoria last may, as I have four neices and nephews,
two grandaughters, and two great-grandsons over here. So it could be busy,
but not too much.

The MONTHLY GATHERING for Chit and Chat in Victoria is still in the organizational
stages and will probably be arranged for a day in September and will be at 2pm
for the first meeting tentatively set for the restaurant near the airport.

YVR PIONAIRS "DATE WITH THE STEAK" BBQ

YVR Pionairs Coffee Clubs have been a super success with 42 Pionairs attending the
June meeting. Coffee Clubs will resume in September and repeat on the same days
through to and including November. (December to be decided later).
White Rock 1st Tuesday,
Tsawassen 2nd Tuesday,
Richmond 3rd Tuesday and
Ladner 4th Tuesday each month.

47 members and friends attended our June 6th Beach/BBQ party held at the
Summerland Sunoka park. The weather cooperated and after lunch door prizes were
drawn and all participated in beach games. The winners were:

. Latest news on CF-TCC -
From Captain Tom Thususka
Retired ...
Presently down in Long River PEI for the summer...
Have caught up with TCC and pilots Al Macleod and Gerry Norberg along with
Mechanic Mike Clarkson in YSU at the COPA convention 2000 just finished
yesterday ( Sunday )
Had benefit of chat with them and shot some pics of TCC on ramp and the 2 aviators
just before flight departure to YYG where tomorrow July 11 they restart their east
coast DREAMS flying...
Al tells me the Premier of PEI and the retired VP of Flight Ops Captain Charlie Simpson
will both be among the passengers Tuesday for the first of the dreams flights.
I plan to go to YYG and take some pics....will send them along when I get them onto
my PC..
Am presently in my Long River PEI summer home and using a PC I brought down for
this kind of activity...
As for the weather today ( Monday ) it is showery but if we wait a while it'll get
sunny...hopefully tomorrow in YYG WX will be OK for the days activities...
ultimately later this week TCC, AL tells me will be off to YQM...
All pictures are taken on the ramp at YSU.
There is one of course of the 2 intrepid aviators, the one with AL in right seat and
George in the left..

Remember the Lancastrian lost in the Andes during the 40's?
Peter Duffy sends this -
I flew with BSAA, and on the Lancastrian, and on the route to Santiago.
I also crossed the Andes in the Tudor 4, and later in the Argonaut.
Many such crossings between Buenos Aires and Santiago lead me to agree with
the assumption that Star Dust's crew was unaware how far they had to go to
Santiago. Descent could never be started until very close, as the safety
height is so high. They found the wreckage on the eastern slopes of the
mountain, and this is indicative of the premature descent. But was this due
to an engine failure? We used max continuous power at about 29 to 30,000 ft
when crossing. Winds of 150 kts could be present in the winter. It was
always a matter of decision as to which way to turn if an engine lost power.
BTW my book 'Comets & Concordes" covers some the Star Dust story.

PRIORITY PET PROGRAM?
Northwest Airlines will be adding 18 positions for "Priority Pet" program staffers to cater
to the needs of VIPs (very important pets) and a toll-free number for pet owner assistance.
The positions will be added at three of the airline's hubs, which will also receive their very
own, brand new, air-conditioned vans to transport the animals and their new support
teams. Depending on how much your pet means to you, Northwest now offers three ways
for them to travel:
As carry-on luggage for those pets and their kennels with a combined weight under
15 pounds,
as checked luggage, and as VIP or airfreight cargo shipments.
CHEAP SEATS, CHEAP GRUB:
The Wall Street Journal reported last week that in 1999, America West created a meal
plan that matched the quality of food dispensed with the revenue earned by the route.
This basically translates to travelers flying higher-revenue business routes getting fancy
meals with salads and hot entrees while flights taking coachloads of vacationers to
WallyWorld get the leftovers -- so to speak.
Other carriers have followed suit.
Good luck figuring out which airline serves what on which route.

RE: Your article in the NetLetter 499: "People are getting tired! A tearful goodbye letter
to Robert Milton and Air Canada " a letter by Doug Steiner, the chief executive officer of
Versus Technologies, which operates the E*Trade on-line brokerage.
I wonder how Mr Steiner is doing on the other airlines since writing this letter?
Consider just a few recent articles (see below) on the American aviation scene and I think
he has jumped out of the pan and into the fire. One other thing, I been in the computer
business for about 15 years and found no other industry with poorer technical support
and customer service. Mr Steiner remember: "People in glass houses shouldn't . . ."

Greetings,
Ref to Mr. Doug Steiners' letter published in Net Letter 499. Mr Doug Steiner, I'm convinced, is aware of the changes taking place within Air Canada, the magnitude of which is not only
historic, but a challenge to all. Therefore, in this type of setting, there are bound to be a few additional glitches and slip ups. Given a little time, patience, and understanding, Air Canada
will get past this difficult period and be more effective than ever, to its customers, share
holders, and employees. Many years of exellent service are being discounted by this man, as he highlights some deficiencies during these trying times. Also, the fact that the whole of "Canadian" staff, after years of uncertainties, are enjoying security, are of no consequence to him. When the highway is undergoing repair, we all have to slow down. We may not like it, but we understand it. Short term discomfort is acceptable under these circumstances. The long winded letter speaks volumes about Mr. Doug Steiner, CEO of Versus Technologies, none of which are flattering.

The student pilot was too high on his approach so he decided to use a slip to lose some
extra altitude. But, being not very experienced, the maneuver lacked somewhat in
effectiveness. The instructor, a bit surprised seeing such execution, asked his student,
"What was that?!"
The student, a bit embarrassed by the tone in the instructor's voice, responded,
"Well, it was a slip...."
The instructor, unconvinced, responded,
"No, that wasn't a slip, it was an intentional loss of control."
