Kansai International Airport Passenger Service Facilities charge is
yen2,600 per adult and yen1,300 child 2-11 years.
Captain Thususka, retired, brought this matter to our attention -
Have just returned from trying to ship a parcel on Fed EX...using employee
interline discount rates which has been available up to now.
I was told by the agent that the discount shipping privilege for AC
employees and retirees is no longer available to RETIREES effective
immediately...
AC retirees will now pay full rates when shipping FED EX...
The only exception I was told are those Canadian Retired Employees who
will continue to be offered discount shipping.
This info was provided to me by the agent at Fed Ex new shipping facility
at PIA in Toronto on Tuesday the 16 January, 2001.
We checked this out and here is the response from Industry Travel -
This is just to confirm that Federal Express has gotten back to me to
confirm that Retirees of Air Canada are permitted to use the FX
discounts.
I have asked them to ensure that the following is communicated to all
their locations.

New daily non-stops from Calgary to San Jose and London, ON.
Yesterday, Air Canada announced two new routes from Calgary.
Effective June 29, year-round daily A319 non-stop service to San Jose, CA.
AC785 will leave Calgary at 10:45 a.m. and arrive in San Jose at 12:18 p.m.
From San Jose, AC784 will depart at 1:15 p.m. and arrive in Calgary at 4:48 p.m
On that same day, Air Canada will inaugurate daily non-stop A319 summer
service to London, ON. The new service will be offered until October 27, 2001.
AC1035 will leave London at 8 a.m. and arrive in Calgary at 9:50 a.m.
From Calgary, AC1036 will depart at 4 p.m. and will arrive in London at
9:12 p.m
Air Canada welcomes Canada-US preclearance.
As a result of an agreement, a simplified, one-stop inspection process for
US-bound in-transit customers will be available to international customers
travelling to the US through Calgary, Toronto, or Montreal.

.Although no official announcement has been made it would appear that
Air Canada is quietly getting ready to drop the Toronto-Amsterdam route due to
poor loads and low yields. Although the flights are still displayed in the
computer reservation systems, no new reservations are being accepted
beyond January 27th. This route was started up in July of 2000.

An Air Canada 767-333 (C-FMWU) enroute from Vancouver to Seoul Korea
on January 6th had to divert to Cheju (CJU) Korea due to bad weather/snow
at Seoul. The crew and aircraft overnighted there and ferried up to Seoul on
January 8th in time to do a return trip back to Vancouver.
Tenzing Communications Inc. has announced a Beta trial of the Tenzing
airborne email and Internet system on select Air Canada aircraft, marking the
first passenger trial of in-flight email and "Best of the Web" browsing capabilities
on a commercial airline. Five Boeing 767s flying North American routes have
been outfitted and travelers will access the Tenzing system through Bell Mobility's
existing on-board communication system.
Passengers will be able to use their own laptop, POP3 e-mail account and
browser, and can receive the necessary software through the Air Canada Web site.

Subject: Bristol Britannia
An article from the Netletter in Jan contains a small error.
There is a third Britannia still in existence at Kemble in Gloucestershire, UK.
It was c/n 13508 and was delivered to the Royal Air Force in September
1960 as XM 496. It was withdrawn from RAF service in 1975, and was operated
by several Airlines from Cuba to South Africa. It is now owned by the
Britannia Preservation Trust who are keeping it in working order. Although
not airworthy it is 'taxi'worthy.

CONCORDE TO FLY AGAIN, SOME ARE FITTED WITH FUEL-TANK LINERS
Air France has been granted a permit to fly one of its grounded
Concordes from Paris to a military base in Southern France, and may make
the flight as early as today. The Concorde is to be flown only under
strict conditions, with no pax aboard, and undergo testing at the new
location. Meanwhile, British Airways (BA) has started to install
Kevlar-rubber liners in the fuel tanks of its Concorde fleet. The
material, which also is used in bulletproof vests, should help to
prevent fuel-tank ruptures like the one that contributed to last July's
crash of an Air France Concorde that killed 113 people. A BA spokesman
said at least one of the supersonic transports may be back in service as
early as this spring.

A suggestion for the Retirees having problems with Long Distance charges
in the US. An alternative is to use
from this site you can make free calls if you prearrange with the other party.
I use it all the time to talk to family in Australia.
(When asked if there was any special software required, Al advises -)
It works great! You only need to sign up -no costs. much like having a
Hotmail address. If you really get fancy you can set up friends. This will
alert you any time a friend is online so that you can call them up.
As I said we use it all the time to talk to Australia.
