. Need to know.
We recently made mention of skiing trips to Whistler and referred to the Industry
Travek Office in YVR -

They have a satellite office in YVR terminal now where the main
office used to be. It's on the fourth floor in the Domestic Terminal.
Their phone number is 604 231-6560     Talk to Tevi!

As mentioned in the Employee Travel document sent to your home in
September, some delays in processing service charge deductions were
anticipated to ensure the new automated revenue accounting system's integrity.
As a result, from the February pay period onward, you'll begin to see travel service
charges deducted from your pay or pension. Don't worry service charges will be
deducted on a staggered basis travel that was completed in November,
in all likelihood, shouldn't be charged with travel completed in early January.

From Industry Travel -
You will be receiving shortly an insert with your pension station
concerning the use of stopover coupons. Where previously, stopover
coupons used to be requested where connections or stopovers were
required between your Flight Coupon No. 2 and last coupon, the new
procedure is that one must have used completely all the 6 flight
coupons and HAVE REACHED THE FINAL OUTBOUND DESTINATION, e.g.,
GANDER-ST. JOHN'S-HALIFAX-MONTREAL-TORONTO-VANCOUVER-
VICTORIA, a stopover coupon will be given by the airport Customer
Sales & Service agent at each enplaning station for the return
flights from Victoria to Gander.

In other words, for one-way outbound travel, the maximum number of
6 flights coupons will apply.

In example, YYJ-YVR-YYC-YWG-YYZ-YYC-YVR-YYJ, once all the
first 6 coupons have been used, a stopover coupon will be given for
the last leg YVR-YYJ.

The payroll insert and the February issue of Horizons will give further options.

. News from the C.A.I.R.E. Chapters.
The Vancouver Island and Gulf Islands Chapter 2 held their regular meeting
on January 25th at the Cowichan Golf club attended by 89 retirees and spouses
and emceed by Jo Kennedy.
Although a general invitation had been made, only one Air Canada retiree
was present.
The guest speaker was Brian Jeffries and Noreen Sampson who spoke of the
various frauds directed principally at seniors. Together with leaflets, the
information was very well received.
There followed a discussion of the future of the chapter, and the next meeting will
be planned as a farewell meeting and at the same locale, and price,  on March 29th.
Bill Wood advised that this years golf meet will be at Arrowsmith during the summer
and he will contact Saville Hambleton with an invite for Pionairs to participate.

Subject: new service for netletter
Introducing a NEW Service of "The NetLetter"
Recently one of our readers asked us to do a favour and
advertise 'a  retirement party invitation'
in the NetLetter.
I think this  is a great idea!
And, of course, at the same time, if the retiree has a e-mail address
we can sign him/her to the mailing list for future copies of the NetLetter as well.
So if you hear of someone about to retire give us a shout with the details.
And we will send out the invitations to everyone and you can supply
the 'toasts' to the retiree via e-mail via the organizer.
(ps we need at least 10 days notice or more)

PIPER DAKOTA ATTEMPTS PACIFIC CIRCUMNAVIGATION:
Hard as it is to believe, there are still aviation records left to attempt.
Polly  Vacher has become the latest, hoping to circumnavigate the earth
solo in a Piper Dakota.  What makes this trip record-setting is that the
Dakota will be the smallest aircraft flown solo by a woman along this
particular Pacific route.

WHAT ME, WORRY?
Her friends at work may be concerned about the possible
US Airways/United merger, but US Airways flight attendant
Cynthia Malinoski doesn't have a care in the world.
Malinoski was on a layover in Las Vegas, Nev., on Friday, January 12,
and decided to while away the time by doing a little gambling.
A few quarters later, Malinoski was $9 million richer, thanks to a big
payoff at a Megabucks slot machine.

Woman Pleads Guilty to Smuggling
When Elena Voronina told customs agents she intended to serve $20,000
worth of caviar at a children's birthday party they thought it sounded fishy.
A 34-year-old of Russian origin and living in Los Angeles, was arrested in July
at Los Angeles International Airport after customs officials found 57 pounds of
caviar in her bags. The delicacy sells for $350 a pound.

Logan Airport soon will provide lodgings of a
sort for passengers stranded overnight because of bad weather.
The Massachusetts Port Authority, operator of Logan, has
purchased 500 cots. When 10 or more people are stranded at the
airport for four hours or more, they can use the cots to get some
sleep. It will be up to the airlines to provide pillows and blankets.
Logan also will have food packets and diapers and formula on
hand, and will ask concessions stands to stay open later.
