. Need to know.

Employee Travel partner program clarification. Very little changes have
been made to the program except that now all employees or retirees, married
or single, can register their non-dependent children at anytime during the
year. Furthermore, only single employees and retirees continue to be able
to nominate a partner of their choice for unaccompanied travel. They will
be able to do so at any time during the year, up to two people for the
year. As an example, Mike is single. He nominates Cheryl in January 2004,
and then nominates Chris in March 2004. Chris will remain the unaccompanied
travel partner for the rest of the year.

Re the departure fees listed in NetLetter nr 803 - Ross Maude sends this
info -
Re your note on the above. When my wife and I were leaving YQM in
October, they charged $15 per person.

number of daily flights will be increased to 6 daily each way. This
arrangement will be in effect until at least April when the schedule will

. Found on the internet.
Northwest Airlines Corporation (NASDAQ: NWAC) today said that it will ask
the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for permission to reschedule some
of its plan year 2004 employee pension contributions
( We are not the only ones! - eds)

Embraer and Air Canada have signed a commercial proposal for the sale of 45
EMBRAER 190s, with the possibility of options for 45 additional EMBRAER 190s.

In commemoration of the Wright Bros. the DISCOVERYprogram "Junkyard Wars"
brought together three teams, each with four members. They were British,
French and American. Their challenge was to construct a 1900s style
aircraft, from scrap material that would have only been available in the
1900s, using 1900s type tools, and construct it in 20 hours. All completed
their project in the requisite time, had an FAA inspection for safety and
were issued a FAA test flight certificate.

On the first test the Americans needed help from the female member of the
British team to start their engine (embarrassing). The Americans did not
get airborne on the first flight due to c of g. On the French first test
they cautiously accelerated and lifted their Bleriot replica off for a few
seconds to an altitude of inches. On the British first test of their
biplane, they boldly accelerated, and took off to an altitude of more than
100 feet and made turns and a flypast of the camera. The most remarkable
aspect is that it was constructed from scrap in 20 hours and flew.

. Ferg Kyle sends this comment to the article in NetLetter nr 799 from
Brian Dunn re the aircraft stored at Greenwood -
to "Jeff at Greenwood":
Interesting article...... I wonder what the Clean Earth
Society would think of the destruction of so many traditional trades - for a
buck.
But my main question is:
What would they want to carve off an L-1011 cockpit? I think I could drag it
out to every street party and raise enough dollars to pay for it over time -
besides I could sit in it and go "brrrum Brrrum", wipe away the tears and
throw the odd switch every once in a while.

Subject: International Youth Exchange Program

I am a retired airline employee located in St. Paul, MN. I have been
organizing a youth exchange program for families of airline employees since
1994. Since that time, over 600 airline youth have participated in the
program, worldwide. This year, I am also coordinating an exchange program
for the International Federation of Airline Pilots Association
headquartered in London.

Would you be willing to forward information about the exchange to the
members of your organization so that they might learn about this
opportunity for their families? I appreciate any support that you can give
to me.

Sincerely,

Camille Wheeler
IYE Program Director
What are your kids doing next summer?

The International Youth Exchange Program for Families of Airline Employees
(IYE) is now accepting applications for a two-week exchange program for
families of airline industry employees. Youth, ages 14-21, are matched with
another airline family with a youth the same age. The youth visit one home
first and then at another time during the summer. The youth are together at
each home.

Begun in 1994 and coordinated by a retired airline employee, IYE has
matched more thatn 600 youth world-wide. For further information and a
brochure, please contact Camille Wheeler email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or write

. Vesta found this on the internet.
U.S. NAVY TO TEST FLYING SAUCER...
It may sound like something from Mars, but this pilotless flying saucer is
actually Russian and it has caught the eye of the U.S. Navy. The pita-shaped
Ekip drone could be flitting around the Navy's Patuxent River test facility
by 2007 thanks to a congressman who saw a prototype on a tour of Russian
aviation facilities last year. Developed by Saratov Aviation, the craft
takes off and lands on a cushion of air, like a hovercraft, and needs less
than 500 feet of runway. The wheel-less drone would be propelled by
"high-economy bypass turbojet engines" and use "auxiliary high-economy dual
generator turboshaft engines ... for operation of air-cushion landing gear
and boundary layer control." The shape lends itself to lower structural
weight and loading while offering higher load-carrying capability. Rep. Curt
Weldon (R-Penn.) was sufficiently impressed that he passed the information
along to the military, and the Navy's Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) has
agreed to help develop the flying prototype and test it at Pax River
