. Must know.
Tammy Steubs of Employee Communications sends this information -
Employee Travel Changes for 2004

Starting January 19, the Employee Travel program will be refreshed for
another year. Employee Travel profiles will be updated to reflect the
number and type of passes you are eligible for during 2004. Furthermore, a
few changes have been introduced so that we can continue to offer all
active and retired Air Canada, Air Canada Jazz and ZIP employees improved
and simplified travel options. These changes are meant to make it easier
for employees to book travel and have more flexibility and control over the
entire travel planning process, while at the same time provide significant
cost savings for the company. They will also allow the Employee Travel and
Recognition team more time to focus on continuing to improve the Employee
Travel program.

Employee Travel priority and entitlement changes

·    The C1/J10 program has been extended to include all Jazz and ZIP employees.

Parent and Partner program
·    Parent travel will be unlimited on Air Canada and therefore is no longer
considered as part of the partner allotment of 10. Consequently, parent
eligibility for ZED travel on Air Canada will be cancelled. ZED fare
eligibility on other airlines remains the same.
·    Parent pass service charges remain at the same levels, i.e., same as
partner charges.
·    The partner pass program for 2004 remains unchanged with the allotment of
10 partner passes per year.  (4 partner passes for widows)
·    Employees or retirees, married or single, continue to have the ability to
register their non-dependent children for unaccompanied travel anytime
during the year.
·    Only single employees or retirees will continue to be able to nominate a
partner of their choice for unaccompanied travel anytime during the year -
up to two people for the year. Example: Mike nominates Cheryl in January
2004, but then nominates Chris in March 2004. Chris will remain the
unaccompanied travel partner for the rest of the year.
·    When travelling without the employee, nominated partners or non-dependent
children will travel at the C5/Y10 priority.

Travel billing
Starting Jan. 19, all employee travel service charges can only be paid with
a valid credit card. The payroll deduction process will no longer be
possible. This change is a cost-savings initiative that will allow the
company to offer a more efficient and streamlined payment process.

Travel billing will be as follows:
·    All travel completed and billed before Jan. 18 will be considered as part
of your 2003 allotment of passes.
·    Any travel completed and billed on or after Jan.18 will be deducted from
your 2004 allocation.
·    If the credit card authorization fails or the credit card limit is
exceeded, your travel profile will be deactivated. To re-activate your
travel profile, you will need to provide Employee Travel with a valid card
and allow 24 hours processing time
·    If you have any questions about the charges to your credit card, please
call Employee Travel & Recognition at 1 866 473-4732; do not call your
credit card company directly.

Other employee travel news
All personal travel agreements with other airlines have been converted to
ZED agreements and need to be booked using the ETS. Exception: ID travel
(ID 90, ID 75) for Delta and Singapore Airlines.  These are done through
the Call Centre at 1 800 413-1113

The ID 80 confirmed space travel program will be cancelled.

Self-service travel tools
In line with the company’s continued efforts to be a more productive and
cost-efficient airline that delivers quality customer service, all travel
planning for active and retired employees, their spouses, parents and
partners can only be made using the Employee Travel Site (ETS) or Speech
Recognition (SR).  Call Centre agents will no longer be able to assist with
employee travel bookings.

. Found on the internet.
A Shuttle America flight Friday was aiming for University Park Airport
(UNV) in Pennsylvania, when it touched down at Mid-State Regional Airport
(PSB). The airports are 11 nautical miles apart, offer identical runway
orientation -- 16/34 and 6/24 -- with different layouts, and both fields
are non-towered (a reminder to self-announce, listen AND look when
operating near a non-towered field). The two airports also have a VOR
situated roughly between them. "When the pilot walked in, he said 'Here's
one for the news,'" airport worker Joanne Shields told the Centre Daily.
The eight passengers had to wait on board, for security reasons, for about
an hour until a van was dispatched to finish their journey.

Although no one in officialdom has publicly confirmed it, the landing of a
DHL Airbus at Baghdad Airport after being hit by at least one
surface-to-air missile last Nov. 22 has been rumored as one of last year's
most incredible feats of aviation. Extensive damage to the aircraft's left
wing may have rendered the aircraft's three hydraulics systems useless,
leaving the pilots with only differential engine thrust to control the
aircraft. DHL has not publicly elaborated on the attack and the resulting
heroism of the pilots (which stands, regardless of the true extent of damage).
