. Update on AGM '98 from the National President of Pionairs - Olie Moore -

Subject: AGM '98 & AGM '99

There were 423 members in attendance. Roy McCormack had prepared the
Registration & Table Seating charts on computer for the first time at an
AGM. There was a chart which read 'Who's at the AGM?' People found
friends they hadn't seen in a long time. Roy & his wife June; Fraser
O'Shaughnessy and his wife Rosemary; and many of the District Director's
and their wives helped in the large task of registering people as they
Bill Ripley and his wife Bev worked on the tours.  The weather was
excellent for the Sunday tour to Niagara, the Monday afternoon City tour
and the Tuesday luncheon cruise on the lake.

The reception was held in the Lakeview Room, which is at the top of the
Hotel and gives an excellent view of the city with the CN Tower, the
Dome and the sailboats out on the lake. There were cash bars and the
hors d'oeuvres were served by hotel staff.

The Dinner Dance was great fun.  Gordie Tapp came to entertain us and
Peter Appleyard and his orchestra gave us excellent dancing music.
Gordie and Peter together with their wives joined us for the delicious
There were two door prizes donated by Canadian Interline Travel, and
Dargal Interline.

Lamar Durrett was our guest speaker at the Banquet and he gave us a very
encouraging message about Air Canada. We are in great shape!!  He and
his wife, Barbara are charming and spent time circulating to speak to as
many of the attendees as possible.  As is the custom each year, the head
table was piped in to the dinner. The piper was a member of the Toronto
Police Pipe Band.  AC donated a door prize of two AC passes, confirmed
space, anywhere on the system.

Doug Lovat & Paul Garratt gave very informative talks at the first
business meeting and Roger Clarke & Irene Vazalinskas joined in for the
Question & Answer panel. Irene will be retiring at the end of May and
will be greatly missed as she has been a dedicated employee and someone
Pionairs called on for information and help when preparing the Travel
Guide for the first interim publication.  Irene introduced Vicky Benoit
as her replacement and we look forward to a good relationship with

At the Tuesday morning business meeting Roy McCormack, our Treasurer,
presented the Financial report; Leo Goulet our Pension & Benefits
representative gave us an update on our pensions and benefits and our
President Olie Moore presented many other items for discussion. Ron
Vigars gave a good talk about the Netletter and encouraged everyone to
'join'.  There were door prizes won at each of these meetings which were
donated by the 14 District Directors.  Bob Robbins & Don Demeza spoke on
the Travel Guide and certificates of appreciation were presented by Olie
Moore to those who had worked on the publication. Bob Robbins, chairman
of the group;
Don Demeza, chief writer; Stephanie Mandzie, District Director from
Winnipeg, Ron Vigars from the USA and Al Croome, District Director from
London,ON, who all did some research.

The AGM '99 will be held at the Sheraton Wall Centre in Vancouver.  The
dates are April 25,26,27/99.
The hotel is beautiful, only 4 years old and is on Burrard St. Very
close to shopping & restaurants.  Other hotels in the USA as well as
Canada were researched but the rates were higher or the facilities were
not adequate.  We hope for a good attendance.  Look forward to seeing
you there!!

. More comments on the AGM '98
From Bob Troup -
Hi,Fellow Passengers,
Had a great time at the A.G.M. in Toronto. It sure was nice to meet and
greet so many old friends, and to spend a few hours reminiscing about the
great times we had spent on shared holidays. " Our Gang " consisted of Gord
McMullen, Charlie Pungent, Bill Stevens, George Daman and Chuck Kennedy,
and their respective spouses. All of us had started with the Company in
Winnipeg, and undergone the somewhat traumatic move to Dorval. I think this
dislocation was partly responsible for our becoming such a close-knit crew.
We could have spent hours recounting our many vacations spent together,
from the famous $99.00 all-inclusive fam trip to the Hawaain Islands, to
villas in Jamaica and long weekends over in London. I have kept a journal
of all the trips that Dolly and I have made since joining T.C.A., and it
makes very interesting reading.
But, alas, how the times have
changed. I was fortunate enough to win the door prize on the final evening
of the A.G.M. last week; a positive space pass for two, anywhere on the
system, presented by Lamar Durrett, and I am at a loss to know where to go.
We usually spend some time in Barbados in the winter, but, I think
forty-two trips to that beautiful island are enough; time for a change,
don`t you think? So I am looking for some ideas. It will be marvellous not
to have to worry about getting on a flight, it took four days to get out of
Grantley Adams last March, and we are getting a bit long in the tooth for
that !!! All suggestions will be considered. Thanks.

.  Gord Dalziel sends us an update -
YYZ NEWS  --  TUESDAY, MAY 5, 1998
1)  Air Ukraine (UKR/6U) have joined the ranks of scheduled international
carriers at YYZ.  They will be flying bi-weekly on Saturdays with inbound
flight making a tech-stop at Shannon enroute from Kiev to YYZ.
Scheduled arrival time is 1615 hrs and departing at 1815 hrs.
2)  Finnair (FIN/AY) will re-commence their summer only scheduled service on
23 May with two MD-11s per week from/to Helsinki on Wednesdays
and Saturdays.  Arrival time is 1450 hrs and departing at 1730 hrs.
3)  Air Portugal-TAP (TAP/TP) has officially ceased flying into YYZ as of
end of April 1998.  However, Air Luxor (LXR) have commenced service as
of May 3rd operating on Thursdays and Sundays to Lisbon.  They are using
the same L-1011-500 that TAP was using and so far at least with no name
on it.  It is believed that Air Luxor is a new charter company set up by
TAP to operate on some of their former routes.
4)  MALEV (MAH/MA) will commence summer operations effective May 24th
operating on Wednesdays and Sundays from/to Budapest till end of August,
then on Tuesdays during September.
5)  JARO International(LRC/JT) will commence summer operations effective
Sunday May 24th with weekly service from/to Bucharest.  One of the very
few passenger Boeing 707s left in service in the world.
6)  Aeroflot International (AFL/SU) ceased flying to YYZ on April 1st,
but is expected to resume service in June.
7)  Air Canada (ACA/AC) has received Canadair Regional Jet C-FZSI (MSN7160)
and put it back into flying again as of May 2nd.  This brings the fleet
back to a total of 23 aircraft.
8)  Canadi>n Airlines International (CDN/CP) commenced flying Toronto to
Boston May 4th along with their partner Canadi>n Regional (CDR/CP) four
times per day.

. Terry's travel tips.

It's Jenn Callum, writing for my father, Bryan McCormick - he wants to know
what kind of special deals (if any) he can get at Disney World. For
example, what kind of rates if they were to stay right in the park at one
of the Disney hotels, and deals on park passes, etc.?
They're taking our daughter for a week in September.
Would anyone know this information?
Appreciate your help!
Thanks! Jenn Callum   This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
